Volunteer Day at Gingko House
Recently our volunteer team visited O Joy Canteen, one of the 𝐆𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐨 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 restaurants, to help packing and distributing hundreds of free meal boxes to the underprivileged groups (including the grassroots and single-living elderly, the disabilities, the homeless and the unemployed) in Sham Shui Po/Cheung Sha Wan, a district where up to 100,000 people live in poverty.
We were touched, because we saw our buddies rolling up their sleeves and helping in the kitchen conscientiously despite the steamy weather; We were motivated, because we felt the happiness of those needy in the neighbourhood when receiving the hot soup and boxed meals; We were encouraged, because we learnt that everyone could at least do something to make Hong Kong a warmer place.
Gingko House (銀杏館) is a local social enterprise which aims at supporting the elderly employment and aid the senior living lifestyle. In the past 15 years, the total number of seniors employed has exceeded 3,000. Thanks to 𝐆𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐨 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 for having us and it was a great experience of giving back to the community.
